Independent advisor to the Highways Agency on matters relating to road traffic noise and road surface texture effects following local complaint and Parliamentary questions. Development of noise monitoring programme to include statistical pass-by noise measurements for different road surfaces.

East London Line Northern Extension

Client: London Underground Ltd.

 

Noise and vibration modelling of 9 scheme options comprising different train types, lengths, service frequencies, track alignments, bridge construction and track pavement, and derivation of barrier locations and heights that enabled new engineering options not to exceed the environmental impact of previously published scheme.

M5 Avonmouth Bridge

Client: Highways Agency

 

Continuous monitoring of dust deposition using directional deposit gauges, and chemical analysis of particulate matter, during the M5 widening at junctions 18-19. The bridge refurbishment included shot-blasting, and levels of dust emanating from the direction of the works were compared to contributions from other local sources.

London City Racecourse

Client: Wiggins Group

 

Noise and air quality assessments for the first new all-weather racecoure. Ambient noise surveys and noise assessment of road traffic changes and crowd noise during evening meetings. Wind effects around new stadium and implications for adjacent sailing club were also considered. Preparation and presentation of evidence at Public Inquiry.

Air Quality Assessments

Dispersion modelling of NO2 and PM10 from road schemes and development traffic using AERMOD, CALINE4 and CAL3QHC; particulate matter from quarries, construction sites and aggregate depots using FDM; H2S from sewage treatment works using ISCST; and stack dispersion modelling using ISCLT.

Hand-Arm Vibration

Assessments of hand-arm vibration from pneumatic road breakers, steel erection tools, industrial processes and from rock drills, jack hammers and stone cutters during the mining of Bath Stone. Evaluation of daily exposure against HSE action levels and International Standard ISO 5349, together with recommendations for control. Provision of reports for litigation.

M5 Junctions 6-8, Noise Review at Whittington

Independent review of scheme's noise impact and mitigation efficiency following complaints to Parliament. Long-term monitoring of noise and meteorological conditions at 8 sites and the modelling of traffic noise in accordance with CRTN. Recommendations for noise control.

Noise, vibration and air quality assessments for new housing developments exposed to road, rail, aircraft and industrial sources. Short and long term monitoring, computer modelling, noise and air pollution contours, assessments relative to PPG24 and British Standards, and recommendations for mitigation.

Isle of Man Incinerator

Assessment of the noise and vibration impacts from the construction and operation of a twin stream 5 tonne/hour incinerator, review of ambient air quality, and presentation of evidence at Public Inquiry.

DMRB air quality assessment, monitoring of nitrogen dioxide across development site using diffusion tubes, and calibration of NO2 dispersion model to evaluate future concentrations with development traffic and new slip road to A10.
